MILWAUKEE - Bad economy or not, Marty Stogsdill still likes his scotch.

But the 26-year-old computer consultant is more apt to enjoy it at his condo with friends than in a bar these days. Going out, he pays $10 to $18 for a glass of scotch. At home? He can buy a bottle for $35 to $50.

Yup, much cheaper to have a beer or glass of wine at home. Just a little lonely is all...

Okay! I drank a bottle of white this week after finishing my taxes. It's always so nice to share a drink with someone. Alcohol is a social lubricant and goes well with conversation, IMHO.

I'm thinking of going even further and making my own... even though my neighbor's pub still only charges me $3.25 a glass for rum and coke. But my yard and porches are big enough for a little homemade wine and music party. Grin.

heh

We really don't go out all that much to begin with, so when we do it is a big treat for me: no cooking, no dirty dishes.
We mostly just drink wine, and the mark-up does sometimes blow my mind, because I know darn well how much the wine costs on the shelf.
Years ago I gave the husband a beer brewing kit. He brewed one time, hated the result, and never did it again.

I had a few Crown Royals this weekend. It was on sale for $24...the equivalent of 4 of them at a bar.

We gave up going to bars for drinks after our first child came along 19 years ago, we go out maybe once a year now. (mostly because of cost) I do miss those days when we were teenagers though, we lived in London at the time. They had the best pubs there. The atmosphere there was nothing like you'll find in most American bars. (And yes, the drinking age there was lower)
