OK, here's a weird thing I've noticed: I'm allergic to cats but not to all of them equally. The ones I have the most amount of trouble with are the ones who hate company and are hiding back in the bedroom. This always amazes their owners, b/c the owners are convinced that if the cat is hiding in the bedroom that it can't be out making me sneeze, but the friendly ones that want me to pet them don't make me sneeze nearly as much. In other words, the allergic factor is exacerbated by the extreme emotions of the cat and it seems to be more of a factor than the cat dander that allergists always talk about. This might explain how it is that I was able to be a cat owner at one time, though I did have more health problems at that time in my life than I do now. Yes, kitty loved me dearly which surely helped.
Another funny one: I'm deathly allergic to guinea pigs and can't be around them for any length of time. I thought it was unique but I've met two other people who said the same thing. Anyone else have that problem? BTW, I have no idea if this has anything to do with the emotional state of the guinea pigs, lol. I went to Peru last summer and was a little concerned but didn't try the cuy (roast guinea pig) and didn't have any problems.
