My allergies can come and go day to day, hour to hour. Why? (allergy, nose)

I can go weeks not having it act up and all of a sudden a sneeze and I'm sniffling and feeling miserable for a few hours. Then it'll disappear just as mysteriously as it came. I'm at a office desk job so things usually stay constant. The people around me don't have on any extra strong perfume or lotions either. I could be fine for much of the day and then have it suddenly come on with no obvious reasons.

I used the have that happen. I would be fine and then all of a sudden my nose would start to run like crazy. Sometimes I even thought it was a bad cold, the sneezing and nose blowing were that intense. Never could figure out why, but given the extensive list of stuff I’m allergic to, could have been anything.

I tried changing allergy meds. No difference. I tried changing the brand of Kleenex I use (I was suspicious that I could be allergic to the Kleenex “dust” and all the blowing I was doing was making the allergy attack worse). No difference. I tried quite a few things and even considered going back for testing to see if I developed any new allergies.

Flonase. Once a day. Problem completely gone. Been 2 years and now I know if I start to sneeze and have a runny nose it really is a cold!

Yes, Flonase works for me, too. I only have an occasional allergy flare now and that's usually due to air conditioning.

You might look into that, OP. In an office environment, you could be getting random exposure to allergens through the A/C.

Everyone's different but here's my allergy protocol:

Daily: Flonase
In a flare: First, Xyxal. I'd say that stops it maybe 70% of the time. If not, Allegra-D. If I'm still suffering an hour after the Allegra-D, I take Benadryl and resign myself to the fact I'm about to have a nap.
