I watched a doctor on youtube Dr Grace Kiem who specialised in helping people with Multiple Chemical Sensitivity or environmenal illess......I had this from a teenager in the 1960s.. I cant get help on the NHS in fact most doctors claim they either dont nkow about it or dont know how to help it.. If Ive had it like others from the 60s isnt it about time they did learn more about it or is it some government ploy that they dont want to admit to.... I wrote to the Scottish government asking for help in a clinic for the condition ten years ago and got a long reply explaining to me that theyve known about the illness for a long time but have no planse to open specialist clinics for this type of allergic condition..., Ive tried Homeopathy on the NHS but even the doctor there admitted to not knowing enough and said that I needed and ALLERGIST but guess what, there isnt one in Scotland under the Natonal Health system..... Back to this doctor in Maryland... who it seems was struck off and stopped helping MCS sufferers from her cliinic as people who worked there reported her being intoxiacted at work.. which she denies and says shes never any intoxiacating drug at her workplace.... I tried to get into some sites where her name appears, one said Harmful site in red... another was just a missing page..... so what goes on.......is this Dr Kien being silenced because they dont like what shes doing about MCS when they are ignoring it exists... they did this with another well known lady doctor who specialised in MCS and other auto immune diseases in the past.. she was also ridiculed .. does this smell funny to you... it does to me...I think many doctors are scared of being struck off and stick their heads in the sand..... After fifty odd years of this I can tell you that its a very genuine debilitating illness that ruins lives...

Her name is Ziem, not Kiem.

Why would her staff report her if there was nothing to support their allegations? It looks like the police have even been called.

Since a physiological basis for MCS has not been established, treatment for it is problematic. Unfortunately, that means that unscrupulous people will try to take advantage of those who have the symptoms that are categorized as MCS.

I just looked her up. (Thanks, SuzyQ, for the correct spelling.) As a sufferer of MCS myself, although I've improved a lot by doing things a doctor from a long time ago told me to do, I think it sounds as though this doctor could truly have been an alcoholic. Why else would her own staff have reported her? Alcoholism can affect anyone. It's often a surprise when we learn how many people are alcoholics, people we never would have suspected. They said they found her passed out with a vodka bottle beside her.

That said, it is still reasonable to expect that doctors who are helping MCS victims would be banned or discouraged. My wonderful doctor who helped me long ago had MCS herself--that's why she switched from being a run of the mill allergist to being a specialist in MCS and what was called Environmental Illness.

There are few doctors who try to treat this illness. The VA tried somewhat to help with Gulf War Syndrome, which is either very similar or exactly the same--from overexposure to toxic chemicals. It makes a person very ill and often the person is housebound because they are unable to tolerate the chemicals like car exhaust fumes that are prevalent in the outside world.

More and more people get headaches from perfumes (they are not made from flowers, lol, they are made from chemicals that imitate the aroma of flowers). Almost every physician's office that I go to these days has a sign telling people not to come in wearing perfume.

I guess I could write a book on the treatment of MCS--my wonderful doctor did write a few. Avoidance, air purifiers, proper diet--including liver support with supplements and things like cruciferous vegetables and leafy greens. Something about phase I and phase II detoxification which I have never understood very well. But our detoxification pathways are blocked because of overload which the liver cannot keep up with.

There was another allergist who was located back where I used to live--I went to him a few times but he was in it for the money! So, yes, even these MDs who use alternative methods can be rotten, greedy people. My wonderful doctor is retired now but she saved my life after I'd had a serious exposure to petroleum fumes from a faulty furnace. I will always be sensitive to fumes but I am able to go almost anywhere that anyone else goes. (I do have to avoid the smelly soap and detergent/fabric softener aisle of the grocery store but who cares!)
