A great quote from C.S. Lewis comes to mind:
"Of all tyrannies a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victim may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated, but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience."

A quote often attributed to PT Barnum comes to my mind:
"There's a sucker born every minute"

I could not agree more.
And I always have thought that the sheer volume of government regulation creates even more suckers.

Do you know of any double blind studies to back your claims? Remember Hulda Clark, her Tijuana clinic and her magic zapper to cure all cancers?
BTW, are you claiming the alt med practitioners don't charge anything for their services? That the alt meds they recommend are all free?

No no, he's making that claim about the alt. medicine makers, not the alt medicine practitioners. So really - when I make an aromatherapy product for someone's sunburn blisters, I'm only charging him for the service. Obviously, I'm not charging for the salve itself, which I custom-blend according to the client's needs. Because then, y'know, I'd be just as bad as big pharma?
Wow. Maybe I should go into the pharmaceutical business. At least they can pay their bills because they actually charge for their products.

I find it very laughable that some people point out that some "AM" therapies didn't work as if allopathic medicine were infallible. I wonder WHO doesn't know at least ONE person who had some condition and went to doctor after doctor not even getting the right diagnosis, I for one know several and I'm one of them. Also, of all the people that die "of cancer" the majority actually die as a consequence of the toxicity of chemotherapy, or the aftermath of radiation, like my mother did and many others that I saw, some even whose cancer was supposedly wiped out by them but were left too weak to survive, but many others were just sent to their deaths much faster and in such a sad and undignified way. On the other hand, I once attended a lecture by a doctor who had "crossed over" to "AM" and during the Q&A period at the end was surprised to hear several people tell how they'd managed their cancer for many years through diet and supplements, that changed my belief that a diagnosis of cancer means an immediate death sentence. More often than not it really can be after a person gets a biopsy, the reason doctors urge people to start surgery or chemo ASAP is because they know that when that needle went in and out some cells went into the blood stream and could end colonizing elsewhere.
And what about iatrogenic disease or deaths? Please take a look at this page: Table of Iatrogenic Deaths in the United States But I suppose that's all good because it's the "scientifically" accepted practice, well, it's NOT good enough for me!
And let's not even speak of the cost! People have gone bankrupt trying to pay excessive (and I should say unscrupulous) medical bills, but let an "AM" practitioner try to even pay their bills out of their services and the same prejudiced people cry bloody murder. Oh puleez, give a break and stop being offended by something like this!
With all that said, no one should really make exaggerated claims about any product or therapy because nothing, other than oxygen, works the same for everybody. What I'm saying is that NEITHER alternative nor allopathic medicine is foolproof and cannot be expected to be so (just think of the waivers people have to sign whenever they are going to undergo surgery). And neither should be expected to be free either, but people should be FREE to choose how they want to try to regain their health.

Why am I not surprised the establishment, and it's limited thinking supporters, bash anything outside of mainstream!
TiredOFSFL summed it up perfectly...The "FREEDOM to choose", rather than be institutionalised by a system and loosing the ability to think for oneself, or having that ability to choose forcibly removed from the individual by regulations.
