you don't seem to understand. Maybe I'm not explaining it very well. Fruits n veggies contain vital nutrients. You can't overdose on F n V. Your body uses F n V to build DNA, hormones, enzymes, and repair itself. Therefore it WILL make you feel better. If it WILL make you feel better then its not a placebo. A placebo is useless which is why it is a control.

Nope, it takes a fair amount of time for all that to be digested and distributed through the body before you could see it take effect. That's a pretty simple physiological truth and there isn't much anyone can do about it.
|
I don't know where you get your info but it's wrong. Your body knows exactly what to do with F n V. There's not the delay of medication. There's no reason for it to take longer for an effect than the hour or two it takes to digest and less if it's juice.

Can you name some of these toxins?
|
Sure, would that convince you? I'm pretty sure if you walk outside you breathe toxins. Your body produces toxins when digesting, exercising.... Just like the waste expelled by a car's exhaust, metabolism causes waste products. There was a study done that you should check out. I'll see if I can find it for you.

Agreed, which is why these "cleansing" and "detox" diets are retarded. Your body does it already.
|
yet your body can't properly heal itself unless you provide the nutrition it needs to do that. Putting water in your gas tank may show it's full on the gauge but your car's not gonna move unless you give it gas for the combustion.

Yeah, I get that part.

Oh you most certainly can. You can overdose on water. You can overdose on protein too. Anything can be dangerous for you when taken to extremes.

You're confusing "placebo" with "placebo effect". Placebo effect, at it's most basic, is simply feeling effects that aren't there because you believe it's good for you. This is why people who talk about feeling such effects so quickly are wrong. It's not possible.

You're not even close to correct. It takes about 6 hours for food to go through the stomach and into the small intestine.
Digestion: How long does it take? - MayoClinic.com
Oh yeah, and then after that happens it needs to be absorbed into the bloodstream and then the bloodstream has to distribute it to the rest of the body before you could even begin to feel the effects, which is highly unlikely unless you have SERIOUS vitamin and mineral deficiencies. Medicine injected through IV lines can even take hours to be effective, and they go right into the bloodstream.
Don't get me wrong though. I'm not saying that just because you can't feel the effects doesn't mean it isn't good for you.

It's been a week now and I'm still going strong. The first time I drank my juice combo it was a bit of a shock to me. Now It doesn't bother me and I look forward to my 32 oz of nutrients that I'm getting everyday. I did a fair amount of searching before I purchased my juicer. I decided I'd rather spend a little more on one that had a reputation of running for a long time instead of a cheaper one that would be hit or miss. I purchased a Breville JE98XL. It's really easy to clean and assemble. I live in a small studio apartment w/o a kitchen area and it's still easy for me to clean. I get excited now to go the the produce section of the supermarket. Here in Florida we also have a ton of road side produce stands so I've started hitting those up to. The mix I'm still using is below.
1 Kale
4 Celery
4 Carrots
1 Ginger
1 Cucumber
1/2 Lemon
3 apples

I want to make sure i get one that also will juice the greens with the fruits.
I know that you have to bunch the greens up to get them done the best way - i'd also like to keep some of the fiber in - a friend is recommending the Vita-Mix but that is SUPER expensive.

I'm not going to get into the argument of whether or not Juicing has it's benefits. It does but you have to stick with it.. My GF of 6 yrs is a nurse. In her field she is dealing with terminally ill patients daily. One of the key areas they focus on is nutrition as a way to increase the quality of life and prolong life. Her profession has had her working closely with dietary doctors and nutritionists for the past 5 yrs. One of the first things they do for every patient is recommend a diet high in fruits and vegetables assuming the person is capable or willing to eat them. If the patients are not capable or willing then juicing is recommended and they are given through a feeding tube.
When we first learned about this I was skeptical. I knew fruits and vegetables are good for me but frankly I can't stand fruit. I don't mind the taste but the texture is what gets me. The whole idea of eating an apple, peach, grapefruit, oranges etc is completely disgusting to me yet i'll drink grapefruit juice. I'm a meat and potatoes guy. I like chicken, pork, steak and potatoes made just about anyway you can think of. I'll eat veggies but not a lot of them and I like my beer.
Like most Americans I was over weight and i'm still a little heavy to this day. At the time I was weighing in right at 280lbs and I'm 6'1". As most over weight people will tell you I was tired all the time. My blood pressure was high and my cholesterol was not too good. On top of that my GF was getting a bit chubby herself and she knew it so we needed to do something.
We decided to try juicing. If it was increasing the quality of life in terminally ill people it had to do something for us. She picked up a used juicer and it worked great. We've had it for about 5 yrs now and it still works to this day. The first week we jumped in with both feet and I would make us enough juice every morning for both of use to have a large glass for breakfast and another larger glass with/for lunch. (For me this was my lunch for the first month). It took a while to find a combo we liked then played with it a little from there.
After about a week I noticed I was sleeping better and had more energy. I would actually get up right away in the mornings and get moving instead of laying around and being lazy. I also noticed I wasn't ready for bed at 9pm anymore. We continued juicing daily for about 6 months and during that time I noticed other improvements. My hands didn't hurt as much as they normally did and I seemed to be thinking clearer. I no longer had that "word on the tip of my tongue" problem and I seemed more focused. During this time I went to the doctor for my yearly check up and blood work. The good news is my blood pressure was back to normal and my bad cholesterol was coming down to a normal level while my good was slowly increasing. I had also lost close to 20 lbs without giving up any of the normal stuff I ate for dinner. I still had my 20+oz steaks or my 3 pork chops with loaded baked potatoes with soups, salad and all the other unhealthy stuff. We stuck with juicing a few times per week for close to two years and in that time I lost close to 60 lbs. My GF lost almost 20lbs but that is all she needed.
Eventually we slowed on juicing. It became a pain to keep fresh fruit and veggies in the house and the cost was getting a bit high so we cut back. We still do it every weekend as Saturday is our shopping day and I sometimes will make a couple of glasses during the week. I have often had entire weekends of nothing but various juices and I have to say that it does change the way you feel over time. I've never had the immediate better feeling that some describe and do feel that those types of feelings are strictly in your head but It does work long term if you give it time and stick with it.

We love our Vitamix, and would absolutely recommend it to anyone. Ours is mostly used for making protein drinks, but I've had juice made in it. The difference between the Vitamix and a juicer, of course, is that you're still getting the whole food and not just the juice. And when you tire of juicing, you still have a very powerful blender instead of a dust-catcher.
We got our Vitamix 5000 last month at the swap meet for $35, though. Not a huge investment.

I love drinking fresh juice
My go-to combination is carrot, apple & a handful of whatever berries I happen to have on hand. I also really like Cucumber, Apple & Lemon too, it's very refreshing & great in the warmer months.

3 celery Stalks
3 apples
3 carrots
1 piece of Ginger
It takes a little bit to get used to the juice but I can already tell a little bit of a difference.
Any good thoughts on my combo?
Should I dilute it w/ water or is it ok to just drink it straight all the time?
Have a good one.
