There are no anti-viral medications for measles.

Measles Treatments and drugs - Mayo Clinic

"No treatment can get rid of an established measles infection."

Vitamin A may reduce the risk of complications from measles but it will not completely prevent them, including death and the lingering immune damage from the disease, including the risk of SSPE.

"Natural" immunity to measles is defective compared to the immunity from the vaccine. It's a bad idea to let your child get measles and figure a little vitamin A will prevent serious complications. Even massive doses of vitamin A will not eliminate those complications.

Consuming anti-viral foods when you have a virus may help your body fight that virus off more effectively.

My point is that the amount of Vitamin A necessary is far more than you could get by eating carrots. One 2 oz carrot has about 10,000 IU of Vitamin A. A 6 month old would have to eat five of them to get the recommended dose; a 6-11 month old would need 10; person over 12 months would need to eat 20. You would have to take a huge amount of supplements for the doses recommended as a treatment for kids with low vitamin A levels.

As suzy_q said, there are no anti-virals for measles. And even if there were, it is far better to prevent the measles than to treat it after the fact. The only way you can prevent measles if you don't vax is to "hide in the herd" and hope for the best.

Yes, the two doses of Vitamin A would be megadoses and something that would be taken under the guidance of a doctor or other health practitioner such as a naturpoath. It's good info for people to have.

A reminder, this thread is not about vaccinating. People know about vaccinations. There is info about vaccinations everywhere. It's heavily promoted by mainstream medicine. There's really no need to discuss it in this thread which is about alternative health and illness.

Any more posts that are not about alternative medicine do not belong in this forum. People do not need to be constantly corrected. They are discussing vitamin A and measles and that is all.

This is the Alternative Medicine forum... As in an alternative to medications. I assumed you knew what I meant. There are plenty of antiviral treatments for viruses in nature.

Along with Vitamins to support the immune system... liquorice, elderberry, green tea, garlic and others have been found to have strong antiviral properties

I wasn't suggesting that you should just eat carrots. However, by eating your carrots, you are supporting a natural immune system. Also as I mentioned in another post.. there are herbs and foods that are antiviral.

"Studies have demonstrated the importance of nutrient supplementation in the treatment of measles, specifically supplementation with vitamin A (sometimes called the "anti-infective" vitamin). Herbs have been used worldwide to treat measles and there is mounting evidence of their benefit. Some folk remedies, such as the Cherokee use of spicebush (Lindera benzoin), have been used traditionally for measles but have yet to be scientifically investigated. Constituents include benzoin, aromatic hydrocarbons, and aporphines, which possess cytotoxic properties (McWhorter 1996)." Source

About halfway down the page there are some specific herbs listed too for anyone who is interested.
