I'm gathering infirmation regarding preparing herbal tinctures. I'm experimenting with saw palmetto and using 100 proof vodka. I've also read that some use everclear. Also I'm having a problem finding large (1/2gallon) glass bottles of 100 proof vodka. I'm concerned that plastic will leach into the vodka. I've also come across a number of chemical companies that sell gallon quantities of alcohol suitable for making tinctures. Anybody have any helpful information for an amateur tincture maker?

I'd like to reply, but I can't. I buy all my tinctures and essential oils.

Make my own coconut oil toothpaste and make up a solution I use on a tooth issue to keep me from infection now going on 10 yrs.

I'm presently buying all my tinctures from Catskill Mountain herbs. At $38 per 4 oz bottle it's getting pretty expensive. From what I've read tinctures are not at all difficult to prepare. Just add alcohol to either dry or fresh herbs, store for 6+ weeks and consume.
