I found this article earlier today.

MDMA, better known as the illegal drug Ecstasy, has shown promise for treating people with post-traumatic stress disorder. Now the FDA has granted the drug “breakthrough” status, and a phase 3 trial could begin as early as spring 2018.

Interesting.

I took it a couple of times back in the good old daze and enjoyed it, but that's neither here nor there.

Are drugs the only thing for PTSD?

They can help "reset" your baseline.

I wish they did more HRV biofeedback for PTSD and other fear-based mental disorders. It's the most effective thing, imo.

I want to see an HRV measurement of someone on ecstasy! Off the charts, I bet.

I guess I don't understand all this PTSD issues. From what I read it's from wars that people fought in. There have been continuing wars since WW2 and just heard the term PTSD in recent years. Just wondering.

It's been a problem for all those years, too. Some people come back and can't get out of "kill or be killed" mode. It ruins their family life, work life, social life, they can't relax, sleep etc.

Do you not think it's a problem?

Of course it's a problem and I'm so anti war in the first place. What do they solve. Getting OT on the wars issue so I'll drop off here. We have so many vets sleeping on the streets of LA. SF too.

It certainly is a problem and some of us have had family members affected by it when returning from active duty, but then there are those, who served in wars and still managed to function normally when returning, my son is one of them.

I think the issue here is more, not just vets, but why suddenly so many seem to be afflicted with PTSD. It seems we are a generation or the younger people are that can't deal with the stresses of life period.

Again, let me make it clear, I am not talking about vets particularly. I am referring to society in general.

I think before PTSD was something that men wouldn't admit to (it was not manly) and they were told to suck it up and deal with as best they could. Now we recognize the mental and emotional damages of war and are much more open to treating it. Society is much more accepting of these types of problems now.

As already mentioned, PTSD doesn't just happen because of active military service. It can result from other traumatic events in a person's life. Maybe the "labels" differed in the past, but now its categorized as different manifestations of the same process. And, rather than one single level of disability it is now a spectrum. If it seems as if more people suffer from PTSD than before, its partly because it IS acceptable to discuss it.

If the active ingredient helps someone who is suffering that's good news. I doubt anyone who understands the issue feels that medication alone addresses the problem effectively, so no, its not just another pharma plot.

To this old lady Ecstasy = Date Rape Drug. Whatever happened to talking out your problems? Nope, ask your doctor if this or that DRUG is right for you. Pop some Pill and all your problems will be solved. Sick.
