Though I don't, personally, have any experience with this substance, you peaked my curiosity and I decided to poke around for some viable research. Studies are quite minimal but there are some out there from sources that are scientifically well-respected. The study on cholesterol appears to be the most widely referenced.

The cholesterol study is 20 years old, not placebo controlled, N of 19, no follow up....worthless

If there was any validity it would have been expanded upon by now. Likely means if anyone did try to confirm the study that results were not reproducible

Layla, good info. Cholesterol is not my concern and if silica can help my joints, I'm in. I take DE for a week on, a week off usually, 1/2 tsp in glass of spring water.

First of all I, specifically, stated that the studies were small. I also stated that the cholesterol study was the most widely referenced. Furthermore, I surmised this based on current references from other sources regarding the original study.

Secondly, I noticed in one of your other posts, that you refer to 'advising your patients'. Are you a healthcare provider? Because, if this the case, I find it highly irregular and unprofessional for a medical doctor to hang out on a chat forum laying in wait for a chance to call people out.

Thirdly, why would you even bother to comment on issues or ideas that you have an obvious disdain for?

There is a certain protocol involved in good research, things that researchers the world over have found that work best. I do not know all the particulars myself, and am appreciative of the input of a real medical professional. There is too much hype and drama and just plain old out-and-out lying in the alt-med world.

Then don't buy into Alt Med world...I don't trust pharma world a LOT. Talk about the lies of pharma and the costs.. and side effects, good grief. People who don't buy into helping thyself heal continue to drop in and do all they can to discredit other's choices.

Sure, why not? Let's all eat clay. Reminds me of Kaopectate, that didn't work either

Until one researches and uses it with some faith, why knock what others choose. I took Kaopectate years ago when I was less healthy and it did work at the time.

Hi I just took my 1/2 tsp in my MSM/Ribose/Glycine drink and wonder how much time I have left. Are you still doing good? I'm taking it every other day. I just want to keep my joints moving.
