I want your opinions on this topic, because honestly I think it's a heap of BS...

My cousin has been traveling every other week from Connecticut to New Jersey to visit an alternative doctor. She pays him each time she goes. She said he looks in your eyes and tells you what's wrong with you. She's spent almost $200 on vitamins and oils and sorts from him. Apparently he's told her that she has a thyroid problem. my thing is wouldn't going to your local doctor determine something like this? I keep telling her she should get a confirmation from her family doctor on this, but she swears by this guy.

Maybe I'm overreacting? I tend to think a bit logical though....I'm just curious as to what others think.

BTW...it's $65 the first visit and $35 each time you go back.

Does he claim to be a medical intuitive or something?? One sign of thyroid issues are short eyebrows but he would still draw labs on her...sounds sketchy...

I thought the same thing. My aunt has been going to him since she lived in NYC. the guy told my aunt that she has issues with her liver and now has her going back to him once a month to "check" her liver!

As far as being medically intuitive, I really don't believe that there is such a thing.

The guy also claims to be an energy healer so i guess he closes his eyes and touches your leg to feel what might be going on with you. I just hate to see them dishing out all their money for something like this.

If your cousin truly has a thyroid problem, she needs to see a specialist--not an alternative medicine practitioner. We have one of those in our area, and he was recommended to me. When you have a thyroid condition, you need real medicine, and that can only be prescribed by a real doctor. The practitioner told me that I just needed to take one or two pills whenever I felt hungry. Thyroid is not caused by hunger. I ended up in the hospital. Tell your cousin to save her money and get a true diagnosis. Her life may depend on it.

I think I would have a blood test over an eyeball evaluation...Sounds like bunk to me. Wow...cheap visit costs...you get what you pay for!

Has he 'healed' her yet?

She believes that whatever he's doing is working.

I guess if he fixes her claimed thyroid problem...which he probably can not confirm, until he does a blood test, which he is probably not licensed to do or read...so sure,,,he can 'fix' the facade...

I am wondering how he confirms his diagnosis...and his claim to fix them...

It's called iridology. Very popular in the alternative/natural health field. And in the natural health field, thyroid issues can be addressed.

it's just not supported by any medical studies. That's my thing, and to me it's a bit pseudoscience.
