I often pull with plain H20 for a few minutes after eating, simply to rinse and refresh my mouth. I started doing that long before I ever heard of oil pulling. This works well when there is no toothbrush at hand.
I use Listerine. It gives me a nice crisp "feel" in my mouth, it gives a pleasant minty scent, and I'm one of the rare few people who like the unusual aftertaste from the thymol. It kills germs, and it's cheap if you buy the 2-pack (which is around half a gallon) at BJ's/Costco.
Out of desperation, I tried oil pulling for almost two weeks on an abscessed tooth, which was pretty weak before the abscess, in addition to using Listerine, colloidal silver, and oregano oil. It was too late. Finally had to succumb and have the tooth pulled.

Listerine may be well and good and also cost effective, but I never carry a bottle of listerine when we I go out to eat for example. A situation like this is where H20 swishing is an effective, make-do alternative.........for me.

Yep, you make do with what ya got, definitely! Even "pulling" with water can get the little bits of food stuck between your teeth out and into the sink.
