yes, I've done this off & on for a couple years. Some of the claims made for oil pulling are kind of outrageous, & I doubt it will cure anything under the sun, but in my experience it's as good as a cleaning from a dentist & it does seem to boost immunity. If you are using an oil that has EFAs in it there is something of a mood-balancing effect as well.
Wow, I don't know if this is like the old days, when they sold tonics to "cure" everything or what, but I might try it for the oral hygeine part of it.
I've been using coconut oil, since that's what I currently have on hand..But I think I'm going to get some sesame oil, "the Queen of oils", and sunflower oil, since those 2 are specifically recommended.
@stepka- I read that unless the fillings are already loose, it shouldn't be a problem. But that's up to you, I probably wouldn't try something I felt unsure of myself either!
I've heard of it, though with coconut oil. I'm afraid to try it though as I have a mouth full of mercury fillings and not sure how that would do.
If anything, it might help pull some of the mercury leakage with it, just be careful not to accidentally swallow any of it.
Tried it for a little while, but found sesame oil too strong tasting and made me gag. In fact, never did make it the full 20 minutes with any oil, although must admit, didn't try the coconute oil. That would be better in my mind.
So, I tried this today, foolish me, up early, looking on city data and what do I come across? Oil pulling, funny what a tired mind will do.
This, was the most disgusting tasting thing I have ever tasted. I happen to have had sesame oil on hand, that is the worst tasting oil. I swished and sucked and pulled, for 20 very long minutes. When I was done I spit it in the sink, I don't beleive it is toxic, like sites have said. It wasn't white, just a much lighter tan, it was slightly milky, but that is due to to the emulsification going on in my mouth. This process, slightly mimics, making mayonnaise. After I spit it out I brushed my teeth, twice.. and gargled with mouthwash. I could not get the taste of this oil out of my mouth. It reminded me of when you wipe down wood with oil and the wood soaks up the oil. Well, my tongue acted like the wood, I can still taste the oil and it gave me horrible breath all day. The only thing I noticed from this experiment, is that my mouth smelled and tasted horrible all day, and my tongue and teeth became a little sensitive after.
I shouldn't get up in the middle of the night, tired minds don't think straight.
I really like a lot of Ayurvedic medicine but that would make me totally gag.
Just thinking about it makes feel blecccchhhhhhhhhhhhh.
I swallowed 3 tablespoons of castor oil once.
I was desperately constipated and didn't know at the young age that i was how to effectively deal with it.
I almost passed out it grossed me out so much.
Thanks for the memory.
