Safety: Quito vs Bogota vs Medellin
Of these 3 cities which do you think is safest? How is Quito in terms of *relative* safety?

Can't speak for Medellin but from personal experience both Bogota and Quito are pretty safe. Quito however has a huge pickpocket problem.

I agree with this having visited Quito (and other cities in Ecuador).
Colombia has a reputation for rich people being kidnapped. I would assume that Colombian cities are more dangerous that Ecuadorian ones.

If this was the early 2000's I would have agreed with you. Now however they ran FARC and the other paramilitaries/guerrillas out of the cities and most of the country which got crime more under control. Plus there are so many police everywhere it is almost impossible for anything bad to happen to you (unless you get yourself involved in drugs, etc). On a personal level I would say they are more or less very similar as far as safety goes.
As of now, Mexico I believe now has more kidnappings than Colombia.
