There's no comparison. Lima is a world class city with 9 million people, it has some very nice places, the food is great, and the Spanish spoken there is very understandable. DR and PR are just places where drunk American college kids go to during Spring Break.

Can someone give compare Lima's safety to New York? I've looked at statistics, but I've found that estimates of the homicide rate range from 5 (which is really good for a city) to 19 (which is not good at all). I don't expect Peru to be Swtizerland, but I just want to be sure that I'm not studying abroad in St. Louis
