I've always imagined Montevideo Uruguay as a walker friendly town with efficient public transportation; a place where, at worse, a person could get around on no more than a bicycle or scooter. A place where parks and public spaces abound and people are friendly.
I'd like to hear from those who live there or have visited Montevideo extensively. Your input and experiences are appreciated.
I have visited there twice although it was just for two days each time. I love it. I would say you are about right except public transport is mostly by bus so it is not really efficient like a subway (but the city is small and built for humans so you can walk many places) and Uruguayans tend to be nice but a little reserved.
I liked Uruguay a lot, until I got to Montevideo, which was just a big city pretty much like any other. The provincial towns are a lot nicer.
