Hey everyone! I am currently getting my TEFL certificate right now so that I can teach abroad.. I want to teach English in Sao Paulo, Brazil. I think it would be easier to get a teaching job if I am there in person and I possibly have people to stay with while I'm there. My question is what time of year do English schools look for teachers the most there? I do not want to get there and have to wait a few months before I have any available job openings. Anyone who taught English there or that is from Brazil know? Thanks!

I taught in Sao Paulo Brazil.

The ideal time to arrive in Sao Paulo is right after Carnival. Very few people have any desire to study or take on studying English between Christmas and Carnival. So, my teaching hours tapered off quickly.

Carnival also isn't much in Sao Paulo. If you wanted the full Brazilian experience, arrive in Salvador or Recife...really enjoy Carnival...than go down to Sao Paulo and start looking for jobs afterwards.

I loved living and teaching in Brazil, by the way. I didn't love the low pay, or the near impossibility of gaining a work visa though. I taught on a tourist visa the entire time.

Thanks! That makes sense...was it hard finding a job? There are a few places who teach business English and pay as much as 35R an hour.. The pay might suck but the overall experience might be fun, no? Did you arrive there knowing Portuguese?
