Here's one...favorite city of Southern Brazil...

The main three seem to be Curitiba, Florianapolis, and Porto Alegre. Which would you prefer and why?

If you're unfamiliar with them, you could check out Wikipidia and Google Maps to try to get a feel for them...

Curitiba and Porto Alegre are both very nice, but not at all alike. Curitiba is a model city, even American cities could learn something from their manner of urban development. Porto Alegre is very, very Brazil, but with a nice sense of progress. I don't know Florianopolis.

I doubt many on this board even know any of those cities.
If I had to chose, I would pick Porto Alegre, it is quite a heavyweight although largely unknown outside Brazil.

Years ago, I visited Curitiba, and I quite liked it. It did seem efficient, easy to get around, etc. I've heard it has become a model throughout Brazil and the world for city planning.

I haven't been to Florianopolis or Porto Alegre, but I viewed both of them extensively on google maps (the next back thing).

Florianapolis appears to have a nice cosmopolitan flair that I could see immediately. I can't seem to locate the popular beach there, perhaps it's not next to the population density like other Brazilian city beaches are located.

I also viewed Porto Alegre, but it didn't stand out quite as interestingly.

GOOGLE MAPS has all three city street views available. Just drop the mouse/man icon, and you can view all the streets.

If I could combine all three cities I would move there in a second. Curitiba is the cleanest and most organized, Floripa has a great natural setting and is the safest, Porto Alegre has the best read population in Brazil and for me has the most interesting culture and nightlife of the three. If I had to choose one it would probably be Porto Alegre....unless I didn't have to work then I would choose floripa. Floripa reminds me of the central coast of California.

I only know Sao Paolo, Rio De Janeiro and Brasilia.... I´m sure that´s the only city most people here know of, if any at all.

I don't think anyone here will go on google maps street view to check out the cities Not same thing as being there.

I'm Brazilian, but the only of the three that I already have been was Porto Alegre.

I liked Porto Alegre, but I heard from many people who visited Florianopolis that "Floripa" is the best. Specially because it has very nice beaches (although with cold water... Brrrrrrr... Very different from the warm water in the beaches here in the Northeast )
