The accent may be different but out of all Latin America, the 3 neighboring islands of Cuba, Hispaniola, and Puerto Rico share the most cultural similarities.

The only difference in Cuba and the DR is that in Cuba you see more variety on the streets. You may encounter a black guy who looks straight from the Congo, a 50-50 mulatto, and a guy who looks straight out of Germany. The DR lacks the nordic looking whites. But the mulatto and blacks are the same.

These Cuban phenotypes :

Cuba received more immigration per capita from Spain than Argentina. A large number fled from 1959 onwards, but you can find plenty of not mixed white people, around 30 percent. Their third city is white, Holguin.

About 40 percent are very light mulattoes, people that can pass as white DR and then you have the "negrones" in different shades.

Before 1959 most blacks were in the eastern province, the purest ones were brought from Jamaica and Haity by sugar planters during the 30's. With communism and thanks to USSR subventions, blacks and mulattoes became the immense majority (around 70 percent). Recently they are being hired by the tourist industry and they even appear on TV, something unheard of 7 or 8 years ago.

The population you see in Centro Habana and Downtown Habana is not representative. The properties left by whites in 1959 were ocuupied by pure blacks from the east (they are called palestineans), they are a real pest for tourists because they are always pushing fake cigars, asking money, a real nuisance. The communist authorities tried to expell them from the historical area and Centro Habana (a very beautiful area, but in ruins), but it was impossible even for them.

The pics you showed are typical "Palestinians" in Centro Havana looking for some tourist coins.

Cuban accent for the west is entirely different from Dominican or PR aceent, the dialect spoken at the eastern provinces is more similar.
Also keep in mind that Cuba imported the most enslaved black Africans of any nation of the entire Caribbean. Cuba didn't abolish slavery until 1886. Historians have confirmed that Cuba alone imported more than 1.3 million slaves. The last ships and boatloads of Africans were still being imported illegally well until the 1880s and 1890s and many migrated from Africa to Cuba and back and forth even still after.

Most Afro Cubans are descendants of enslaved peoples imported from Africa. Only a significant minority of Cubans of African descent are descended from Jamaicans and Haitians, and other Afrodiasporic peoples.

People would think that they're Cuban Africans who migrated from said region.

Also mind you, I am only using the "moreno" or darker Dominicans in my argument. If you want, I can bring out lighter Dominicans if it would please you so.

Havana City:

Cuban Military:

Havana city is full of dark people. Even Cienfuegos, which I will admit is overwhelmingly white, has black people like I showed above. My point is that there are blacks in all parts of Cuba, even in the whitest area.

Yes, Cuban blacks look straight out of Africa with little to no admixture, while Non-Haitian descendant Dominicans are more admixed.
Most Cubans of African descent are descended from the more than 1.3 million slaves imported to Cuba between 1492 and 1886. Even after that time period blacks from Africa were still migrating to Cuba, even voluntarily as well. Blacks have been in Cuba since colonial times.

Cuba is also the most African culturally and most purest or more African traditions maintained than any nation of the Caribbean. Cuba and Brazil are the two most Africanized nations in the Westerm Hemisphere.

And many white Cubans and whites from Cuba have immigrated outside of Cuba elsewhere so that diminished and decreased the white population of Cuba, especially those whites that happened to migrate to Cuba in transit to other nations. Many white populations in Cuba were not permanent and were rather temporary and planned to move on elsewhere to other nations.

The great migratory wave went to Buenos Aires, Montevideo, Havana and some to New York. Cuba opened doors to white immigration after the Spanish-American war of 1898, a large number of soldiers that were fighting Cubans stayed (Castro's father). The American occupation - 1898-1912 - promoted open door policity and protected Spanish properties in Cuba, but restricted Spanish immigration to PR.

Those phenotypes, as I told you, are quite abondant but not the majority. As I told you, you can find them in Old Havana and Centre Habana peddling to tourists, and they are called "Palestinians" by Cubans. Blacks tend to live in both extremes of the island, in the eastern provinces and in the slums of Havana, by now the entire city is a great slum except the westernmost section.

The figure of 30 percent of pure Spanish stock population does not comes from Census data, but govermental studies sponsored by MINSAP involving DNA sampling. According to Census data, there are almost no white or mulattoes in Cuba, nobody wants to be black (atraso). In Cuba, slavery ended in 1884 but most whites haven't heard the news.

About 40 to 50 percent of the population are "blanco cubano" or "brown paper bags", people that could pass for white in DR or PR and consider themselves white, but have some black blood in them.

Cuba is a very racist country. According to the Communist government, blacks and mulattoes are born with "antisocial instincts", (Ley de Precriminalidad). The Ley de Precriminalidad states that blacks and mulattoes have a "proclivity" to antisocial behaviours. Quite a confusiong law since almost all the Revolutionary Police are black palestinians (guarapitos).

Blacks, whites and mulattoes are not the original population, the original population disappeared 400 years ago. Nowdays, you find some people that claim Taino ancestry, but they are descendants of Yucatecos brought as slaves. The government recreated some "Taino Villages" were you can find those "yucatecos" making casabe, dancing for the tourists, etc.

A very confusing country, nothing to do with neighbours except with Miami.

José Marti once said “Hombre es mas que Negro, mas que Mulato, mas que Blanco" (Being a Man is more than being a black, a mulatto or a white")... Some say maliciously that that day he was under the influence of gin. The Spanish labeled him as Pepe Ginebrita, a curious paralelism with Pepe Botella (Jose I, the brother of Napoleon and King of Spain during a brief interlude, perhaps the only King that truly loved Spain).
Fidel Castro's mother is a mulatto. Fiddle Castro is 1/4 black.

A lot of Peruvians and Mexicans have African ancestry. You can't tell what someones ancestry is by looking at them all the time.

Colombia(which included Panama) abolished slavery in the 1850s. Ecuador abolished slavery in the 1850s although it still existed among some until the 1880s. In Venezuela, until the 1850s. Peru, until the 1850s.

Most of the national population of Cuba is descended from*Spaniards (mostly Andalucia and Canary Islanders),*Africans (mostly Bantu and Yoruba).*Small populations derive from Caribbean people from other islands, French, and Chinese.

Cuba also received immigration from northern Spain, mainly from Catalonia and Galicia. Fidel Castro for example, is of Galician descent from his father's side.

Whites are bound to disappear since they are leaving in droves. I remember that 20 years ago, there were zones in Havana that were mostly white like El Vedado, Vibora, Miramar, now those areas have a large abondance of "palestinos", "illegal immigrants" from the eastern provinces.

One thing I don't like is that they litter everything with "santeria" practices, they litter the seaside with all sorts of crap they throw to the sea to honour Yemaya, and they sacrifice animals, I find all that quite nauseating. The government tried to erradicate them, but now they don't care.
