based on all the comments in this video for example

My White Jamaican Dad (Original) - YouTube

Is it based on a lack of basic Caribbean and by extension Western Hemisphere history? In terms of immigrants, the whites actually came first and are the reason everyone else is there (except Amerindians of course). So they have some of the deepest Caribbean roots of all. I doubt any Caribbean person would find this video odd at all. And I find it particularly odd when North Americans find it weird as the Caribbean shares a broadly similar history to North and South America.

Because of the stereotypes, of course. Anyone who has done any research will know that Caribbeans came from all over the world, not just Africa, but Europe, India and other parts of Asia. Jamaica has had some white prime ministers of note recently, like Norman Manley although I think he might be mixed. Most people are aware that say Bob Marley is half-white..Not many people know of the significant Jamaican Chinese/Chinese Jamaican community which has been pretty important in the history of the Jamaican state and influential in politics and entertainment. Many famous Jamaicans who appear black to people have White, Chinese and sometimes Indian ancestry.

Its due to ignorance, but most white Caribbeans live in Cuba (+/- 7.7 million whites), Puerto Rico (+/- 3.2 million), and Dominican Republic (+/- 1.5 million).

I doubt whites from all the other Caribbean islands would add up to 1 million, maybe not even to 500,000 total.

Because most North Americans are ignorant about the Caribbean. All they know about the Caribbean is beaches and palm trees.

As for why there are not many white people in the other Caribbean islands(I'm mainly talking about British West Indies), they left. Many left when slavery was abolished and another wave of emigration happened when the countries got their Independence.

When I moved to NYC in 1959 I had a (white) Jamaican friend and was friendly with his family. Their family history went back to the white settlement of Jamaica. They were very amused by comments such as, "Oh! You don't look colored at all."

Americans don't get much information about the Caribbean in school...pretty much limited to the fact that Columbus landed down there in 1492...and then fast forward to the sinking of the Maine in Cuba.

Probably because it's seldom important to many people's daily life to know that there someone from the caribbean can be white and also because it's relatively rare, especially from the old british colonies.

There's also some negative racial sentiment in some islands:

I think the Spanish Caribbean is where less friction exist, at least towards whites.
