Sowell is liked by conservatives and libertarians who like to champion a minority advocating against racial issues.

Sowell has a lot of sense. If they put him on TV half as much as they put the so called black leaders, race relations would be 1000x better

I don't think latinos thinking they're white is going to magically push them up the socioeconomic pyramid but it is true that upper class latinos tend to identify as white regardless of what they really are racially.

And he has had little to say for the last 20-30 years.

I know of no novel ideas that Sowell brings to the table. He is just another house slave Uncle Tom he sings so he can get pats on the head from his white masters.

The one (former) conservative who offered useful ideas was William Julius Wilson. He conducted deep analysis of the black ghettos to determine the condition, the reasons for the condition, and possible remedies. He stated boldly that the poverty of these people weren't going to be resolved by civil rights, or diversity remedies, because many of these people had become so isolated from the labor markets that they had no idea of what the world of work within institutional structures was all about.

His central thesis was that remedies to improve access for the black middle class were meaningless to the black poor.

One can dissect Wilson's arguments and craft remedial programs.

There is nothing that Sowell says that is useful, so it doesn't shock me if he is finally become insane. He must really be angry that a black man is president. He reminds me of the maid in "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" who was enraged that the character played by Poitier was "uppity" enough to think that he could get a rich white girl.

Wilson, who was with the American Enterprise Institute, left them when he realized that he was being USED as a black face to peddle their right wing agenda.

Thomas Sowell is a capitalist. So with that said his message is very useful to black people. Do you know what will help black people? The pursuit of money. Because people treat you differently when you're sitting on money. If black people want respect they need to get more money. At the end of the day, everyone respects money in America. That's the color that really matters and that's the equality will come from

In this the USA and Brazil are alike despite all the pretense that it isn't.
While this is broadly true, most Brazilian "whites" do have some black ancestry...and use that to explain why they cannot possibly be racist against blacks.

Honestly though, the Latin American attitude toward race is somewhat between American racism and colorism within the U.S. black community.

Spoken like a white man.

You know what will improve race relations. When a black man with a college degree isn't earning the same as a white man who only completed high school. Regardless as to the degree or the school attended any college graduate must be more educated than some one who only graduated high school.
