Since Argentina will be in the limelight for the next few days and over the weekend, I thought it relevant to share this article I read. It's interesting, that Argentina once had an economy double that of Spain, and was poisoned to become perhaps a second superpower, or at least firm first world nation, in the western hemisphere, but due to a number of reasons that never eventuated.
I don't see why Argentina would ever deserve to become a "superpower". I don't see anything special that would set Argentina apart from other South American countries.
It has all the same problems of any South American country: high levels of corruption, income inequality, a horrible state-controlled economy based on Marxist/Keynesian ideas.
I once held a job where I dealt directly with Argentinian clients and they were no different than Chileans or Brazilians- same culture: very disorganized, took everything personally and overly emotional.

Yep, it is like dealing with Japanese, Chinese, Koreans, etc, they are all alike. IN the same vein ALL South Americans are alike.

Is that why Chile is rated by international organizations to have more democracy than the US, less political corruption than the US, the fastest growth rate, or one of the fastest growth rates, in Latin America; murder rate lower than the US, more economic freedom than the US, and the media say that Chile will be the 3rd developed nation in the Americas within the next 10 years, making it the 5th non-Caucasian country to be so (along with South Korea, Japan, Taiwan and Singapore) Yes, Spanish culture is such an utter failure people in Flyover Country from outside Chicago probably shouldn't comment on international matters.
Not only that, too, about Chile; Argentina is floundering economically with its "homogenous population" compared to Chile.

Spanish speaking South American countries have very similar cultures, they were all colonized by Spain.
China, Japan and Korea have different languages, different histories and different cultures. Poor analogy
All three of those Asian nations have intertwining histories though. Traits of Confucian thought, positive intellectual reinforcement, wars, to European colonization. Although in contrast, Japan tried to colonize neighboring Asian lands, Argentina did not.

You're right, I should have said attempted subjugation. Though never formally conquered, all three have been controlled by Western powers at some point.

Many Chileans are caucasian including the socialist president Michelle Bachelet (of French ancestry) and former dictator Pinochet.
Believe it or not: People form Europe also migrated to South America.
Last time I checked Spain was still in Europe.
