I like New York and Los Angeles. But while one gives you hurricanes, terrorists, and congestion, the latter offers you earthquakes, smog, and phony people. That's why Chicago [my favorite] is the best.

How come only capitals are listed? What about Medellin, Cali, Guayaquil, Vina/Valparaiso, Cartagena, Manaus, Belem, Recife, Guadalajara, Monterrey. And even some important capitals are missing, like
Quito. Managua, Tegucigalpa, and Montevideo.

There are certainly a lot of major cities listed which are not capitals (NYC, LA, Sao Paulo, Toronto, Rio, Montreal, Chicago, Vancouver, Miami, Quebec City, etc.) and being a capital does add a bit to things. The question then is where you put the cut-off for major city. Those are/could be great cities, but are they major cities within the same kind of tier that the listed ones are?
