I think the poll is self explanatory, but make sure you don't count acquaintances.

You can add if there is anything cultural you like from your Latin American friends.

Also, whose culture do you find much more interesting now that you are friends with someone from there and are able to actually understand that culture better rather than depend on possible half truths or myths constantly repeated online or in other venues.

I think it would also be interesting if by being friends with these people, you became aware of certain things that is said about their culture that are lies or exaggerated. If so, what are they?

I thought more people would had voted by now, especially with so many people giving opinions about various Latin American countries/peoples. You would think they at least had friends from there that were filling them in on the realities of their country as oppose to whatever agenda or misinformation that might has been spread online or through other mediums.

Hopefully more people will vote during the weekend, even if its the none category.

Hmm, I wonder why you didn't include Haiti?

I have plenty of friends from Latin America and/or with descent and/or roots from Latin America likewise and obviously.

My vecino/as that I grew up with were/are from the Republic of Panama. I've always been a detailed and often critically analytical person as well as inquisitive and always ready to opine on various topics and issues in addition to using common sense and logic and doing extensive research.

I found that Panamanians and their people and nation are often misrepresented and misunderstood by others. Various encyclopedias and travel books often get lots of information on the ethnography and demography of Panama all wrong as well as many aspects of it's rich history and culture.

In addition I travel a lot so it further satisfies yet quenches my dying thirst to know as much as possible about different cultures and history.

I also have many Puerto Rican and Dominican friends. A lot of hate and misconceptions are spewed about Dominicans (platanos as we often refer to them) oh and the controversy over race and Latinidad has grown over the past decade. In the 1990s I never saw big debates like this. I think with the forthcoming of the Internet by the by the late 1990s and early 2001's people had more access and more ways to express concerns or tap into often touchy subjects that weren't addressed or gotten across in the past. So it's good and bad!

Do you have Latin American or some of any type of Latin background?

Friendships I have with people, not online, come from Mexico, Honduras, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Colombia, Ecuador; and, of course, Puerto Rico
