Im an american Maried to a Brasilian woman so an english speaking community would be a plus but not neccesary. we are looking to pick up and move in 2 months
.
I may speak about my State in Brazil São Paulo.
I would suggest São José dos Campos or Taubaté both are or neighbors. Both are developed middle size cities in the northeast of Sao Paulo state (2 hour from the capital). These cities are very close the north coast of Sao Paulo, Maresias, São Sebastião, Ubatuba are the nicest beaches of the coast and just half hour. Also they are more or less one hour from the nicest and famous beaches of south Rio de Janeiro State (Parati and Angra dos Reis).
There is a lot of big companies like EMBRAER, Johnson and Johnson, Volkswagen so is easy find a community of English speakers there.

Gramado and Campos do Jordão are just interesting for who live in a hot place far from Europe like brazilians, don't have any appeal for foreigners from temperate countries.

To be fair, if you live in Northeast United States even North Carolina will seem tropical to you lol

Gramado is beautiful, it is mostly a locals tourist destination. It can be quite pricey. I know they have a pretty popular film festival there each year.

Its very cold during the winter.

I better visit in the summer then. I would like to meet local tourists, I love being somewhere where the locals are. Im not the sort of boy who just vacations in Cancun/Rio/Aruba

Looking at pictures online I would love to visit Southeast Brazil, I think the triangle between Belo Horizonte, Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo is so beautiful and has so much culture!

You'll see lots of locals in Gramado during summer in December, because of the christmas lights. Surroundings cities like Canela and São Francisco de Paula have very beautiful natural settings.

But in January and February it's empty, go to Florianopolis instead.

I live in montain resorts near Rio and I think the nature here is a lot more beautiful, but in summer it rains a loooooooottttt!!!

Hahaha, I know what you mean. I don't like resort style places full of tourists.

There are many beautiful spots all over Brazil. I would like to stay there a few months and just travel around.
