One of the favorite tricks of brazilian exchange students around the world is to ask what is the Capital of Brazil. And most almost never know the answer.
By Youtube we have the impression that Brasilia is largely unknown in the world.
When I was in college years ago, it was taught that Brasilia did not maintain the infrastructure of the city and many buildings were in disrepair. That situation may have changed as it was a longtime ago.
LOL. That is funny. I thought she was joking at first. I totally did not know either :P! Good to know. Now that I feel stupid. I am going to ask other people at work tomorrow to see if I am the only one that thought it was Rio De Janeiro.

I doubt most Mexicans -or Americans for that matter- do know anything about Brazil outside Rio de Janeiro or the Amazon.
Incidentally, few minutes ago -in order to make reply for this thread- I posed the question; What is the capital of Brazil? to several people, and the answer was always either Rio de Janeiro or I don't know.
Well, I'm not exactly sympathetic to the idea of building a city only to be capital of the country, and away from the majority of the population at the time. I have the impression that it helped to perpetuate the dictatorship that began four years after its founding, and has been perpetuated for 20 years in power.
In a certain way, it probably perpetuates the serious political problems which we live today.
