We actually have a two day stop in Lima, but have already scheduled an organized culinary tour for the first day. On our second day, we would prefer just to go somewhere to walk, shop, maybe have a drink or lunch. We do not speak Spanish, but are experience travelers with a reasonable idea of caution (we are a group of four senior citizens.)
The port is actually in Callao, which we are being told is dangerous, even to walk or get a taxi. It is about 30-40 minutes away from Lima.
Anyone have any suggestions? We were considering hiring a taxi to go to Miraflores, but are being warned that the taxi drivers at the port terminal are not trustworthy and that we may have trouble finding a taxi to take us back to the ship.
We do NOT want to do another organized tour/excursion on the second day.
