Daylight saving time in Chile - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Quote:
On January 28, 2015, Chile adopted definitively GMT-3 as its official time, meaning the previous DST will become the official time in Chile without further seasonal change.
¿Horario de verano? (In Spanish Article)

Does Chilean people trying to use same time zone with Argentina?
Most of the mainland territory lies around 70°W and they were already saving daylight approximately 40 minutes for using UTC-4 instead of UTC-5.
Here is the problem because 8:47AM sunrise during winter solstice sounds utterly extreme for 33rd latitude in Santiago.
Is there a good reason to choose like this?

Some studies suggest that DST doesn't makes much economic impact, which was the purpose of DST. I'm in favor of getting rid of it in the USA too.

As for the angle of the sunlight at specific times, its a matter of getting used to. Once that happens it shouldn't be a problem.

China is as big as the continental USA or about as big as Brazil and the Chinese have their whole country in one time zone. While many Chinese in eastern China wake up to sunlight early in the morning millions more are waking up at that same time but in pitch blackness. The Chinese apparently don't have a problem with this or at least its not adversely affecting their development.

If the Chinese can get used to such an extreme measure, the Chileans will be fine.

I live in the USA and I'm 100% in favor of getting rid of Daylight Savings Time. Because of it where I live, the sun sets at around 4 around Christmas time! It's more like Daylight Losings Time, not Daylight Savings Time.

Apparently, Cancún in Mexico just changed to Eastern time for a later sunset.

The winter time is not DST, that's the actual time for the time zone.

right now it is 1pm here, it should have been noon, so yea, you're right. DST gives late sunsets, in sweden sun almost doesn't go diwn a all. Abolish all time variations.
