Can anyone recommend any discussion forums that discuss topics like we have on city data, or pop culture/film/books in Spanish language? I'm particularly interested in Colombia, Mexico, Argentina, or Spain. I read and write Spanish (speak it too) and it would be interesting for me to participate in Spanish or Latino online communities. Please let me know of some sites.
I'm sure someone on here will know of some forums... If you're interested in Colombia or southwestern U.S. cultures, we can chat. My wife's from Colombia and I have spent quite a bit of time there, I go there once or twice a year. I'm very familar with the entire Valle del Cauca and Antioquia regions and the city of Manizales. For myself I grew up in New Mexico in a mixed Chicano/white culture. I can probably talk semi-intelligently about Mexico or at least Chicano/Southwestern U.S. culture. I've been to a few non-touristy areas in Mexico, most recently went to Puebla last year.
What do you mean with those countries? The history itself? (if you could tell us, that'd more helpful)
Particularly I participate on 3DGames - Comunidad de intercambio de ideas y discusión which, while having a "games" on its title, have a lot of interesting threads (specially the upper sub forums which aren't gaming related). There you can read some debates about politics, books, and so on, everything very informal
Since most of the people are natives, some slang is used from time to time (specially when discussing informal topics)
As I've said, there are a loooot of other forums too! (I love using forums myself)
If you want forums with less slang and/or more formal so it's easier to understand, just let me know

I think these links are a great start. Lately I've been traveling to Latin America a lot, and before I spend more time there I've decided to read things in Spanish like internet forums. I've also downloaded a lot of Spanish language books to my kindle to read.

If you spend sufficient amount of time in one of the places in Latin America, you can find local groups that help eachother with English/Spanish. These are pretty common at least in the bigger cities. Seek out those groups.
Immerse yourself in the language, that's the best and only way. Read the daily newspapers, watch the news in that language and, as you said, read books written in the language.
As mentioned above, skyscrapercity has a large Spanish language section. Though I have to say the place is a bit of a cesspool. Lots of prejudice and rude people over there and you can even see that attitude reflected in some of the users that come on here from over there. This forum is pretty civil in comparison.
