Rural areas around Medellin, Colombia. Videos by the same guy that did "The Insane Offer" video.

The first couple of videos is of Rio Negro (Black River), a rural/suburban community outside Medellin. The third video has more rural sights.

You may say I am giving up on the fight for equality, but I don't want to spend the rest of my days hoping for change when I feel for our country it may never come. You cannot change how a person thinks.

With that being said I love the Spanish language and culture. I would appreciate people not assuming what I'm thinking, my like and dislikes as you stated above. Freedom is what I seek. True freedom to be myself. You are correct is stating that the south where I was raised is not all that multicultural. Most people here identifying as "black" are usually descendants of former slaves or other blacks that migrated here. We have been here a long time. Then there are Caucasian and a lot of Hispanics. But, all the other cultures making us the "melting pot" are usually in bigger cities and border cities. The mindset of our people here is very narrow (generally speaking). We don't experience "different" so we do not seek "different".

And that is my dream for someone to ask me what kind of music I listen to instead of assuming. Or what movies I like or what I like to eat. They just may be surprised. Thank you for your comment. I needed to hear that from someone.
I have no intention of going to the USA in the next 4 years ... but at some point I would like to travel to the South of the USA. I have only been to Florida in the southern part of the USA... but I am hearing and reading all this stuff about things that happen in the south of the USA that just seem really so strange to me to be happening still. Ex Hispanics being racially profile on a regular basis. People living very segregated still by choice ex the white or black areas of the town. It seems so very different then want I am use to. Also the landscape of some of these places seem really beautiful. As a Canadian these places are places we hear about on a regular basis on tv, moves and in the news.... but seeing is believing.

Also I want to buy rural. Not sure how it works there, but definitely want to buy rural. If I want to stay in the city I'll stay here. I want a little nature in my lifestyle. I'm wondering if they have any owner financing type agreements among the locals as we have here in the south. Being I have no credit abroad and no telling how long it would take to build credit. I will check into US banks financing internationally. Thanks. Good info!
Be very, very, very careful about entering these kinds of agreements. I cannot speak for Colombia specifically, but there are many scams in Latin America in which you can very easily find yourself without the money or the property.

I can tell you with certainty that in Mexico, Nicaragua and Costa Rica, it is not uncommon for people to claim the land you own as theirs long after you have purchased it. Having a clear title history is VITAL. Take nothing for granted and use a highly reputable and recommended attorney. You seem like a very nice and genuine person, please do not get taken advantage of. Go in with your eyes wide open. My own recommendation is to rent for two years before buying anything. Rents are generally much less and it takes at least that long before you really know if the lifestyle is for you.

Totally agree with this. Dont rush in to a purchase.

This documentary talks about this in terms of Nicaragua

Mississippi has a much higher income than any LatAm country too.
People in Mississippi are paid in dollars, so of course when counting the exchange rate they earn more. However, Mississippi has no major cities and definitely no public transportation. Living in the sticks in Mississippi can mean you're hours away from a hospital with specialists. Though to be honest is is true if arts of upstate NY. There are many rural areas if the US with not bunch going in. And the culture in Mississippi sucks!

Any person making a low wage US salary can be quite good in Colombia.

800 dollars a month will allow u to be quite nice

renting is also very cheap!! For 250 dollars u can rent a good size house in a town outside a big city, and a very nice home in small towns

and no, you dont need to live in Colombia's expensive, foreign ridden areas

in many middle class neighborhoods a black American couple can live a nice life

as far as discrimination : I can't fathom colombians discriminating a black American person. They'll just see u as an American! Discrimination in Colombia is aimed at the local poor.

Pros of Colombia:
-FOOD IS HEALTHY AND VASTLY ORGANIC AND READILY AVAILABLE (As long as u dont buy processed)
-IT'S AMERICANIZED ENOUGH TO NOT FEEL A CULTURE SHOCK
- ITS FRIENDLY AND WELCOMING, COLORFUL AND LAID BACK
-IF U HAVE SOME SORT OF US INCOME U CAN LIVE LIKE A QUEEN/KING!

cons:
- The country is still dangerous, but nothing as it used to be!! it's better and better each passing year!
-colombians have little cultural awareness, most have never really interacted with foreigners, so they'll just ignore u or treat u in a bizarre way but that is because many have never really seen foreigners before, not because they dont like u (that is changing though as more colombians learn English and start to travel)

Another thing... in Colombia the term "Negra/Negro" does not have the Us connotation.

To colombians negro is an endearment term, the country's history is marked by slavery and African influences in music, the genetics of many of the people, the food, etc.

negro / negra in colombia is the equivalent of calling someone in the US "sweetie"

That is because negro is a term associated with the African slaves, who are depicted in Colombian history as humble, hard working, decent, proud and key contributors to Colombias identity.

So if some one calls you negro, negrito do not be offended.... they are literally complementing you!

The south has its beauty. I live in Arkansas. People come here to retire. But, yes things are very segregated still. There are many mixed neighborhoods and areas but when speaking large numbers it's crazy. The southern half of Arkansas which would be below Little Rock is predominantly black and the northern half is predominantly white. We have some towns you may have heard of Harrison, AR. Ask any black person and 9/10 they will tell you they wouldn't stop there if their E light was on for gas. I'm dead serious. Alot of black people avoid Northwest Arkansas in general. It is crazy and I would like to leave lol. I have had incidents such as an older white lady hitting my car while backing out of a parking spot. She refused to role her window down to speak with me. She refused to apologize. Luckily she did not do any real damage to my car. She told me she barely hit me and to get back in my car and love out of her way. Now tbh honest most white people aren't lime that here but there is a stigma. We can be friends but they aren't allowed to date us type situations. Yet we are the Bible Belt and considered so christian.

Good advice. I will take that seriously. I definitely plan yo rent for awhile. I just hope I don't get stuck in the city forever. I want to be rural. My dream would be to rent a small farm with a few acres. We shall see.

Wow. Not sure why this type of tension is not old news and people cant get over it. Toronto has people from all over the world. This is not the norm where I am from.
