This whole thing about Catholics and fertility rate is something the British used against the Irish and Americans like to repeated.
Catholics countries do not have overpopulation problems, most likely the contrary. even Brazil the largest catholic country is now passing the 200 million marks despite being an older country than the US and receiving the bulk of the transatlantic slave trade. (and 4 million Europeans during the late 1800).
Spain, the most rabid catholic county in Europe has been having population issues for 5 decades now, with shrinking population.
No a single catholic country can be said is overpopulated in the Americas.

It's considered a bad thing by economists, because the country's equivalent of a Social Security fund will run out of money, and with a small younger generation combined with a large older generation, there's more demand on medical services and so on. It adversely affects the country's economy, because the oldest cohorts are mostly non-productive; they're not contributing to the economy. Instead, they're draining it.

Bad for an economy modeled in such a way, sure. But an ever increasing population is bad for everyone and everything on the planet.
Here's a solution. South America can import millions of babies from Africa and Southeast Asia, where there is an over-abundance of them. Solve the problems of both continents.
Central America onthe other hand has a healthy population growth. Guatemala has a bit too high population growth and they need to lower it in order to be able to grow sustainable and it can benefit the economy.

Guatemalas population is exploding. They really do need to control it. The rest of Central America does not seem too bad though.
