This has nothing to do with ideology (socialism, capitalism, leftism, etc). It has to do with the personalities of individuals in power.

right now in Venezuela:
  • the cost of a bus ticket is a month's salary of the average Venezuelan
  • new passports cannot be issued because there is no ink or paper on which to print them
  • buses that need repairs are laying dormant because there are no parts to fix them
  • people who want to leave the country must walk from wherever they live to the borders of neighboring countries
  • people who own property must make a tough choice: if they leave the country, they forfeit the property to the government and will never get it back
  • 30EU (euros)/month is sufficient to maintain a small family (one or two people)

Countries like Russia, Cuba, and Venezuela should be left in their condition with no outside rescue, as memorials to the effects of socialism.

Socialism isn't the problem. The problem is dictators ruling in the name of socialism. Or ruling in the name of anything else. If you have a dictator running things in the name of capitalism, you'll end up with the same result.

Didn’t Chilean dictator Pinochet ran Chile in the name of neoliberal capitalism? He prevented Chile from going down the socialism route. Chile didn’t implode. If anything, its the closest thing to a developed country in Latin America. Its the complete opposite of how Maduro is going to leave Venezuela. Every sensible Latin American wishes their country would have a development similar to Chile and not like Venezuela or Cuba.

Venezuela itself had capitalistic dictators and none of them took that country to the brink of total collapse.

Pinochet killed a lot of people. Not exactly a good path to follow.

Dictators have that habit, but we are talking about not leaving a country on the brink of collapse.

Another dictator that took a country with massive problems and left it as a virtual failed state was Duvalier in Haiti. He and his son took a Haiti that had been progressing economically since the days of the US invasion and gutted out its entire economic base. By the time his son ‘Baby Doc’ left Haiti in the 80’s after taking as many millions as he could in cash from the country’s coffers to live the good life in southern France, Haiti was on the verge of total collapse. The only thing the prevented the country from collapsing completely was the lifeline created by the UN and the USA. Duvalier was not a socialist, but he was also not a capitalist because he expropriated and basically destroyed through mismanagement many large businesses.

USSR leaders killed millions, as did Mao. Castro killed plenty to, and threw his opponents in prison. Plenty of murderous leaders from all kinds of countries, not just Chile.

LOL No one said Chile was the only one. But there is really no excuse for kidnappings and forces disappearing REGARDLESS of where it is.
