Thanks, my friend sent me this ... Usually a maximum of 182 days, or about six months during a 12-month period. Those days can be amassed during one trip or they could be the sum of several trips. People from countries other than Canada are allowed to stay a maximum of 90 days

The bolded part is correct. I don't know if your friend forgot to tell you this, or maybe you already know it but I'll mention it here. Whether or not you are actually allowed to visit the USA is up to the discretion of the customs officers who interview you. If the customs officer is suspicious of your motives and doesn't believe the reasons you give for visiting they can deny you entry permanently. They are less suspicious of visitors who are snowbirding for a few months at a stretch during the winter months and are more suspicious of people who amass the 182 days over several trips. If you get red-flagged in their data base even once you will be red-flagged forever.

Zoisite.

A small point. Customs deals with the importation or export of goods. Immigration deals with people.

For Canadians to visit US, it is pretty easy. You don't need a visa, neither do you need an ESTA (as European countries and some Asian countries do even though they get visa waiver). Certainly they don't need to be interviewed.

Many Canadians come to Hawaii and a lot of them come on short trips. For example, flying from Vancouver on Friday and returning from Honolulu on following Monday. I know many who always come to Hawaii in such short trips. Never have I heard from them that US Immigration has bothered them.

In fact, the US Immigration, which is set up in Vancouver airport, is one of the easiest to deal with. Hardly will they give you a tough time.
