For a country facing so much joblessness, why aren't call center jobs being brought a little closer to home? I do not think folks with a need will have any issues learning the English language.
Argentina is the world's poster child of a basket case. Seriously, what kind of self respecting decade would it be without the obligatory Argentina financial crisis? The sad thing is that all these endless crisis are completely self inflicted.
I'm not surprised at all. Argentina is the country in Latin America that has had the most crises in the 20th century and so far the 21st century doesn't seem to be much different. One of the richest countries in world at the turn of the 20th century and is continually declining since then. SMH
They keep it up and more countries in their own region will not just continue to close the development gap with Argentina (some countries are gaining much more than Argentina while this country continues to decline), but will also surpass it. The advantage of Argentina is that its wealth was so much that until now few countries in the region are able to surpass it yet, but that appears to not be the case in the current century.
Argentina is out of the way, so it´s not like they can use tourism to give the economy a boost or to bring in foreign investment. It looks like the government doesn´t have any ideas on economic development.
They rely a lot on the export of agricultural products, which can be a problem. For instance soy. Neighboring Brazil cuts down the Amazon rain forest to grow more soy etc. Other countries are also increasing their agricultural output, so prices are likely to decline. And at a time when economics are being politicized, prices can fluctuate a lot.
Argentina still has a rather high HDI, but if their massive economic and financial problems continue for a long time, it will sooner or later lead to a general decline.
There is a Mercosul-EU trade agreement now, but European farmers are already complaining about cheap imports from Latin America. And frankly, I think the agreement should be canceled by the EU as long as Brazil keeps chopping down the Amazon.

Has the agreement been ratified by all member states?
The EU could cancel the deal, but Brazil would likely still chop down the Amazon. And EU could do a lot more in restoring wild areas itself. You need to take the lead if you´re going to criticize others.

What? Europe never had a giant rain forest that could serve as the Earth's lung as the Amazon is often called. We already have an increasing drought problem here in Europe.
I am actually in favor of boycotting Brazilian agricultural exports globally until and unless Brazil ceases the destruction of the Amazon, which is way more than a national, Brazilian forest. It is of global importance. Why boycott Venezuela just because of a regime that doesn't harm the world, but not a country's regime that is posting a threat to the future of our entire planet?
