They don’t look like blacks but you could tell some have a bit of Arab in them.

Anyone in NY knows this.

Not really...strides have just been made in different areas. Not sure I would say one is better than the other. Guess it would depend on the specific Latin American nation being compared with the US and what someone prefers or deems more favorable.

So what would Will Smith and Steve Harvey be classified as in Brazil? In West Africa they might be classified as "white" or dark white people.

There are West Africans Steve Harvey’s color. He looks like any other Black. Until he went bald he has kinky hair. He had no European facial features and as mentioned does not have a white person’s hair. People will still know Will Smith is Black too. Nowhere would any of these men be considered white.

So calm down if the ridiculous Latino studies crap.

Will Smith would not be classified the same as Steve Harvey based on phenotypes. My guess is Will Smith would be seen as mulatto and Steve Harvey as negro.

For me Wesley Snipe is as black as native Africans… If your friend has more caucasian feature and hair he would be pardo even having Obama’s color, but I am from Sao Paulo depending where people are from Brazil the ‘’standards’’ may fluctuate. Where is your friend from in Brazil?
People from Salvador or Rio de Janeiro are more familiarized with pure blacks because that they are able to find some non black features in blacks in another hand people from center south Brazil more familiarized with pure whites are able to find easily some non white features in whites.

Both are blacks in Brazil. (mulatto is some one 50% white / black 50% and pardo is someone more white than black) but I guess both have at least 20% of white in them.

What would Wesley Snipe be classified in Africa?

Southern italians and iberians have some admixture with north africans, but what americans confuse is that these north africans were not arabs (like arabs are today), were not subsaharan blacks, and were not like the today morocans. They were the berbers people as good example of berber would be Zinedine Zidane… Berbers are also a branch of mediterranean caucasian people. Because the berbers blood many italians and iberians have big nose.
In that time the berbers were arabized with only the elite really being arabs from the conquerors who dominated the berbers.

The Moroccans from the Souss region almost all score 100% or close to 100% North African on ethnicity estimates they are the least mixed of all. Zidane is close but the Soussi are more representative. The Moors that settled on the Iberian peninsula came from different regions I have very distant autosomal matches from Agadir, Fez, Meknes, Oujda, Gharyan Libya. The shared segments show equal amounts of Iberian with North African components with smaller Levantine fragments and tiny bits of Arabian and East African. This is the consistent pattern and is indicative of a distant shared population consistent with the historical Andalusi population. A small portion were absorbed into the Iberian population(those that converted to Christianity) but most were forcibly removed and sent to North Africa once the Christian Kingdoms took over.

What would Wesley Snipe be classified in Africa?
In West Africa, tribe and culture would overshadow race, he would be called "obruni" in Ghana,
"oyinbo" in Nigeria, both mean "white man" or persons from beyond the sea..These are terms
used to describe Westerners regardless of race, people who were not born in Africa. They do not
belong to a tribe, speak an ethnic language, have Western ways, body language etc.

Caribbean blacks(Jamaica,Bahamas,Haiti) would be considered Africans who lost their language and culture.
There are things in these cultures that Africans can relate to that are not in Black American culture.

When some AAs go to Africa, they are shocked to be called White when they were never considered White
in America. Light-skinned AAs with European features are called White for sure.

Wesley Snipes would be seen as black which would mean nothing, race is the last identifier in West Africa
( as everyone is black)tribe/ethnic group is the primary identifier, then nation, then continent, then race. He would be White Black Person.

Understood. You call AAs whites because their western culture not because their race, is not really different what happen with the white born in the Americas when in Europe, even the ones holding Europeans passport we will always be seen as foreigner, the same for Japanese Brazilian in Japan.
And what do you think about black brazilians? I think most black Brazilians are like the Americans, but we have in Salvador city area a black culture really related with Africa. Do you think they are more like the Caribbeans blacks?
