U.S. special envoy for Haiti resigns amid deportations - report
Quote:
"I will not be associated with the United States' inhumane, counterproductive decision to deport thousands of Haitian refugees and illegal immigrants to Haiti, a country where American officials are confined to secure compounds because of the danger posed by armed gangs in control of daily life," Foote said in his resignation letter, first reported by PBS.
Foote said U.S. policy on Haiti remained deeply flawed and that his recommendations had been ignored and dismissed.
well, this morning these Haitians woke up with Mexican govt surrounding them with trucks every 30 feet and a helicopter above them.
We always send $$ to Haiti, remember when they have this earthquake ,not the recent one,but when Obama was president,$$ was sent to Haiti.
Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, and Panama signed an agreement
These are top ranking ministers in the Dominican government, the Minister of Exterior Relations speaking of the agreement. This was signed yesterday at the United Nations building in NYC. This is an official request thag the UN, the US, countries in Europe and other friendly countries to develop a plan to help Haiti in establishing its internal peace. They are basically asking the rich and powerful nations of the world plus the UN to help the Haitian government take control away from the gangs and prevent Haiti's problem in becoming a regional one. Small, weaker, poorer countries simply can't offer enough help to Haiti to acheive this.
Anyone subscribe to the belief that the United States has undermined the Haitian nation for over 200 years - denying them stability and prosperity?
You want to see what is truly messed up? You'll see it in the center of Savannah, Georgia. I bet the average American has no idea that Haitians played a role in the independence of the USA. If a country should get preferential treatment from the USA, it's Haiti; more so than any country on the other side of the world.
Some of the Haitians confronted at the Texas-Mexico border probably are descendants of some of the Haitian soldiers that fought to make the USA free and this is how the USA treats them.

Well, the TWENTY-year 1915-1934 occupation or the mid 90 "Operation Uphold "Democracy"" did Haiti no good. Shocking how many people in the US are just either willfully ignorant or just have no clue about the countries that have been negatively impacted by the US in the past. Really blows my mind.

Does this make any sense?
If Haitians need help, is Dominican Republic not right next door? That border looks pretty open?
And it seem that DR is more than able to feed itself? All right there on the same island?
Instead -- Del Rio, Texas means crossing some 1000(s) of miles of water, and then some 1000(s) of miles of land?
I just wonder, when people like you ask questions like this, do you ever bother to do an ounce of research or just start spouting off like this? I mean, come on man, open up a history book, do a little research, it isn't hard.
So...how did get from Haiti to these countries? By raft?
Someone had to fly them over, but who and what was their motivation? No one in the media is asking this basic question.
In the case of Chile, it all started under Bachelet's rule. It is said that her government was a leftist one with the belief of multiculturalism greatly imbedded. The Haitian situation after the 2010 earthquake gave the regime an opportunity towards acheiving that in Chile. The Chilean government was funding airplanes full of people departing from Port-au-Prince to Santiago de Chile. These people were then presented as "tourists," but that was a ploy to get them into Chile, because these were the only "tourists" that would enter Chile but never leave. To blame Haitians for this is futile, this was a creation of the Chilean government under Bachelet. If it was left to the Haitians, there would had never been created a Haitian community in Chile. Now you can't travel through Santiago de Chile without seeing some Haitians scattered here and their on its streets, especially in the center of the city.
With Brazil it wasn't so much a belief in multiculturalism, but rather trying to help Haiti by creating a remittance sending nucleus of Haitians in southern Brazil. Then things tarted to get out of control.
From my understanding, Ecuador wasn't asking visas from Haiti and Cuba. Flying from those countries to Ecuador became a thing to do and then start the land journey towards the US-Mexico border. Many that arrived in Ecuador made it to Brazil via Peru.

I am asking on here, princess.
To get the international perspective of folks around the world who may have some knowledge outside my own.
Some folks do have such knowledge -- and as you have shown, some do not.
Complaints about Brazil are none, as far as I'm aware, other thsn the economic ones due to the current crisis thanks to Covid, but that's global.
Chile though, most Chileans are nice people, but a lot of Chileans are racists and not of the closeted type. There is some complaint regarding not just among Haitians, but also a small Dominican community has formed there and they complain about the mistreatment too. Often times, and based from what I have seen in the news, they often claim it's the first time they face this in person.
Many Colombians are there too, but the image Chileans have of Colombians is of a black people because a significant percentage of Colombians in Chile are from the Chocó region, which is probably the blackest region in all of Spanish America (in terms of sheer numbers and also in purity, miscegination has never been widespread in much of Chocó simply because mestizos, white, etc Colombians have never been numerous in those parts. As a result, the typical Colombian from there looks like they arrived from Africa just the other day -they've been there for centuries, but that's how they look-. This is different from say Cartagena on the Caribbean coast of Colombia where the admixture of most of the people is very obvious.) Among them too complaints of experiencing racism in Chile isn't random or few.
There is also a feeling that many Haitians in Chile are facing discrimination regarding getting places to rent and live, and in getting employment. Many places that are for rent, but when a Haitian is interested suddenly its already "rented" or the job position is already "filled."
Again, I don't want to paint Chileans as an evil people, because most aren't. Many though are racist, particularly to people of visible African descent. Until relatively recently it wasn't common to see blacks anywhere in Chile. Today, at least in the Santiago de Chile area, no one is 'shocked' to see a black person anymore.
