Colombia might be less dangerous than it was 10 years ago but it is still dangerous. I just got back from a trip to Colombia. I was planning on staying several weeks but the first day I was there I was attacked in Cartagena and they broke my collar bone. So the trip is over and I am in serious pain. I would choose Puerto Rico if I was you.

Sorry to hear that. Yes I don't recommend Colombia either, they still have a lot of problems there. People need to be extremely careful there when withdrawing money from banks or ATMs or when buying drugs(some people go there for that, it's called narcotourism) The criminals there are ruthless and will kill you if given a chance.
Antigua, Guatemala dances L.A. style salsa "on 1", which is the most common North American way to dance. Some Europeans dance this style, but they mostly dance Cuban style. Antigua, Guatemala is well-known for both Spanish schools and salsa schools and is cheaper than most Latin American cities. It's a beautiful colonial city surrounded by volcanoes. I learned salsa there, and I know an instructor here in town who continues to return to Antigua to improve his salsa.
So many people think they can teach English to support themselves.
In order to teach English, your grammar must be 100% flawless and your spelling must be perfect.
I can think of one guy who moved his entire family, got a job in a private school teaching English, and on day 2, he ran into a subjunctive and didn't know what it was. His students did and he was fired on the spot.
So there he was. Just bought a house, his entire family and all his stuff in a foreign country, and no job. No job skills either, by the way.
