Has anyone driven BR 101... The coastal highway along Brazil... I always had a dream of just driving up it... Are the conditions good... I know it goes through cities and obliviously driving through cities is one thing... But in the rural parts are the road conditions good? are there gas stations?

I would think that would be a beautiful drive. However, after watching Turistas, I prefer flying directly into my city of choice

Happy travels!

I know this road very well because I've driven trhough it several.
From state of Rio Grande do Sul to Vitória in the state of Espírito Santo (2100 kms) the road conditions are good, with good accomodations, food, vehicle maintenance, etc..
After the city of Vitória to Salvador, state of Bahia (1000 kms) the accomodations and food conditions are more precarious. After Salvador to Fortaleza (1300 kms), the natural beauty that you will be such outweigh precariousness.
You will love the trip.
