I'm torn. My family with family member in Venezuela hates the state of the country and HATE chavistas . Yet from I read there seems to be a large amount of people that are loyal to him.

If he is in fact a champion of the poor and lifted many out of poverty then hooray ! I also hear that only the " rich" and wealthy dislike his policies because it is they who are loyal to the US.

Can someone explain the pro's & cons that has made Venezuela the most corrupt country in the world almost ?

The thing is you can't lift people out of poverty by giving them handouts and subsidies to the point where they hardly need to work. Their mentality remains poor and no skills or role models are passed on to the next generation.

Add to that, neglecting a consistently worsening education system. I remember when the USB venezuela was one of the best universities in the continent, now its not even in the top 30 according to QS rankings. Now 4 Colombian universities, one of which is public, are well ahead of the USB.

Decreasing the productivity of the country by demonizing the rich is only going to mean that more people will become poor in the long-run. The problem is the radical approach instead of creating opportunities for the poor to lift themselves out of poverty, although the latter approach is lacking in all Latin American countries and becoming ever more prominent in developed countries also. Social mobility is a big problem of our age across the world.

People who don't have sometimes will like those that take things away from people that did accomplish and have things. Even in the case of Chavez, if the people without anything don't benefit from it. It's about envy.

There is a large number of extremely poor and uneducated people in Venezuela. They will believe anything if someone comes along and promises them the impossible. They don't know any better!

BTW, the poor are still poor in that country, They were when Chavez came into power and they still are several years after he died. Now they are putting their hope in an uneducated bus driver who is taking that country and it's people even further downhill!
