Just wondering what it's like there (i.e. cleanliness, government, police force, cost of living, taxes, etc). Thanks for any info.

Been there many times.

1. Santiago is probably my favorite city in the world.
Extremely clean and extremely safe from my experiences. Beautiful as well. You're about an hour west of the Andes Mountains and about 2 hours east of the Pacific Ocean.

2. Government is a little bit "too socialist" for my liking but it isn't as bad as the majority of socialist leaning countries (ie taxes).

3. I found the cost of living affordable. Not as affordable as Uruguay but still affordable.

The entire country is breathtaking. It has everything you could possibly want. Mountains, Lakes, Oceans, big city life, small town life, fjiords, etc...

My favorite spot in the country is probably the lake district. It is quite a ways south of Santiago. It is one of the most beautiful spots on earth I've been. It reminds me a lot quite honestly, of the Alps with all of the forests and mountain lakes. I found it to be much less commercialized and far less touristy that say a Switzerland is. Valdavia and Puerto Montt are great places to stay in that area. Also, the Lake District is very close to Bariloche just across the border in Argentina. Just a beautiful country in every aspect.
