I'm curious. Why did you guys choose UAA?

Mostly just wanted something different and how different can you get from Florida to Alaska!

I visited there in November for a vacation and took a tour of the school. Absolutely loved it. I didn't want to come home!

Also, psychology is an important field in Alaska because there is a lot of depression, alcoholism, drug use, etc due to the weather. The latter is probably not due to the weather, but the depression sure can be.

I have always been very interested in weather since I was younger and I plan to make my future thesis on psychological issues related to weather.

Watch out for those brown bears- they like tasty people
In Alaska, not too much in Anchorage. If you want to live in Nitemute with no roads out and no movie theaters, stores, etc, you may find a pretty good match there .

Dress with layers, warm shous for the winter will help you a lot, especially if you will be using public transportation.

FYI, UAA has no rating at all among USA univerities. I think the local education is valuable only for Alaska. I have a Masters in Business from UAA, it was cheap, but i have a lot of doubts that I could use it in lower 48, but i didn't have troubles finding a good job in Anchorage. IMHO

I moved here a year ago from Palm Springs and(depending on what month you move) I'd suggest you buy all winter clothes and such after you arrive.

I spent a ton on sweaters and things before I arrived and it was sunny and warm for 3 months. Once it snowed it turned out that warm clothes from Southern California were not the same as warm clothes from Alaska. I ended up buying all new stuff and hardly touching the "warm" stuff from Cali.

You'll like it here. Good for you getting out of Southern California
