Ha ha, that was very well put too! Yes, I miss summer. Last two days I've felt the bite of fall in the air already. I thought I would put my down jacket away for the summer but I was wearing it again the other night for a late walk and thinking what's wrong with this picture.

Never put the jackets away you never know what ma nature wil send us up here. At least with this rain today I won't have to water the flowers or lawn, and it does keep the dust down.

I don't believe Finger Lake is in Wasilla I think it's just out of Eagle River headed to Wasilla possibley 30 miles south. Heck I may be wrong we have so many lakes up here and several named Summit Lake go figure.

Finger Lake is in Wasilla on Bogard Rd. Although it is technically in Wasilla, it is geographically just between Palmer and Wasilla.

I am a life-long Alaskan and would love to tell you little about what, where, when and how. Yes, there are places without water and septic, but not near where you are intereste in (Anchorage). You would be surprised to know that Alaska is much like anywhere else when you are in the urban areas. Rural Alaska is the part that is much different.

In Anchorage, the parts of town to avoid are Spenard and Muldoon. 4th Avenue is in downtown Anchorage adn fine during the day, but at night there are a lot of homeless people.

I personally recommend Valley life. Many people buy homes in the Matanuska-Susitna Valley and either find jobs in that area or commute to Anchorage. It is not a bad communte at all- 40 minutes from most places in the Valley.

Valley life is the best of both worlds. A mix of urban, suburban and rural life. the Matanuska Valley is actually 24694 Sq miles with approximately 67,000 residents. So it is roughly the size of West Virginia- actually a tad bit bigger!

Most of the population is concentrated in Palmer and Wasilla, although their are other communities nearby that also help to make up the Vally-such as Butte, Big Lake, Sutton, Chickaloon, Talkeetna, and Willow.

Alaska is the most beautiful place on earth....Anchorage...not so much.

A great realtor for you to work with is Lynda Locke with Trinity Homes and Investments LLC. She can find you a home in Anchorage or the Valley. She is highly ethical and a very professional woman. She sold me my first home and sold that home for me and did a great job. I highly recommend her. You can also go to The Alaska Real Estate Board (I think its called) and look her up so you know she is on the up and up. her number is (907) 232-1012.

I wish you much luck!!

I attached some pictures of the Valley. Some of the farms and water tower are all palmer. The bridge is out in Butte-some of the farms are in the Butte too...although I don't recommend living in the Butte...their is a huge mountain that sets a shadow over that area for much of the year. It is really cold.

Again good luck.

Hehe... Hofmanthorp? Where is that? (I'll Google it, don't worry) Aha! In Umeå, no wonder I didn't know where it was! Hovmantorp. Nop, unfortunately, I don't know him. Should I call and say Hej?

Your right I confused Finger Lake with with Mirror Lake. One other item to consider for the Valley is the taxes although small they are still there, and the valley according to the news is pretty much meth capital of Alaska the police officers are trying to clean it up. Back in the 70's the drug issues for the Valley was pot they had a huge bust, the growers sold t-shirts at the fair to help support the legal fees. I have several friends who live in the valley they love it, they hate the commute.

Wasilla is a small town that is growing way too fast in my opinion. I live in Palmer (8 miles away) and feel the urban sprawl of Anchorage here, but it doesnt compared to Wasilla. Finger Lake area is in between Wasilla and Palmer (closer to the mnts.) and is very nice in my opinion. You'll be far enough away from both Wasilla and Palmer and closer to all the fun activities of the outdoors.
