I'm thinking of getting a 1br apt that covers all utilities except for electricity. How much is the usual monthly bill for electricity? I just heard that it can be $40 in the Summer and over $200 in the Winter. Is that right?

What is the heat? Is that paid for by the landlord?

I have a 2000sqft, 5 bedroom with 7 people and our electric bill is about $150 a month.
But I do not run our heat or hot water off electric.

An electric heat bill can put you in the poor house in the winter.

Not sure. The ad said all utilities paid except for electricity. Where I live electricity and heat are the same.

Well, here in Anchorage the means to heat a home can vary from Wood to Electric to Natural Gas or Heating Oil and not all landlords pay for heat.
I'd definitely call or somehow confirm if HEAT is included in the rent.

If you only have to pay for lights and stuff, you can probably swing it for like $40 a month.

Will you be on an upper level? I have a warm place since I live in an upstairs apartment. There is an option to have a fixed rate billing I think with the electric company.

My apartment is on the upper level, and the landlord pays the heat. I spend about $32 a month, and that's with having my own washer and dryer in the unit.

think most apartments are electric why they are so high monthly costs in Anchorage. in remote areas they use big oil drums for heaters. maybe wise to get a small electric heater for floor and use it than the main heater of the apartment. yes buy a small heater to stand on the floor to cut back on electric costs in the winter time. I am on the other side of the scope with apartment at Disney World for the winter spring months. all I pay is $167 weekly includes electric AC computer wi fi cable tv phone. I have been to Alaska four times and only know what it like to live in summers.
