We, as others, are looking to relocate to the Anchorage area but not right in Anchorage. I've read the other threads about areas around Anchorage that are good choices to relocate to.
What about jobs? I'm an office manager of a small business and my husband is a certified mechanic. He spent 15 years at the local ATV- Outdoor power equipment shop as their lead mechanic. He now is the lead mechanic at a heavy equipment rental store--fixing everything in their fleet. With all the construction going on in the Anchorage area, I would think that he won't have any trouble finding a job. Does anyone have suggestions of reputable companies that are good employers? I looked on ADN(awesome) for employment for me and found a few jobs but haven't heard anything back yet. We're traveling in two weeks to Anchorage- Homer and Wasilla just to check things out. Can't wait!!! Anything will help! Thanks!! |

Hi!
Local 302 Operating Engineers are always looking for good mechanics as well as the State Dept of Trans which is Local 71. Sign up for them right away and pay the C-list dues once a month. You never know when they will call but you will be happy when they do. The fishing fleet in Homer (or any seaside town) always need mechanics but it is mostly seasonal. Good, hard working folks never have trouble finding good jobs. After a while you can be picky! Have fun on your trip and Good Luck! |

My husband works for the state and is in the hiring end of heavy equipment mechanic's here in Anchorage and says he is having trouble locating good mechanic willing to work for the State of Alaska, the private sector offers better wages but mose cases it's seasonal. I'm not sure that Homer would be a good place for newbees to find work they're a tight nit community, but we love to fish there. For the best possiblities Anchorage area is where you need to be IMO.
