Hi,

I have always wanted to visit Alaska ,but now my husband's job is taking him to Anchorage, and we will have to shift sometime next month. So I have to start looking at Anchorage from a very different perspective. I have three specific questions.
1. What should be a comfortable annual salary ?
2. What will be a good locality in the city?
3 I am Recruiter , what is the job Scenario like in and around Anchorage?

Please add on anything you feel like we should keep in mind before and after moving to Anchorage, Alaska. Its just the two of us and we are moving in from Sanfrancisco Bay Area.

Thanks in advance, hope to make an informed move.

I'm not very familiar with Anchorage but others here are and will be able to answer your questions better than I can---but I'm watching the 10 PM news now and they just said that the job market is expanding significantly in Anch. Professional occupations are the fastest growing segment.

Wow... that is awesome news.. thanks for the heads up... I am moving to Anchorage after I graduate and have been searching for jobs.. Most everyone has just e-mailed me back and told me to contact them when I arrive.. I guess they won't believe me that I'm moving until I am up there..

That's the same response I was getting...

You'd think they'd be flattered, if not definately more interested in a candidate that took it upon themselves to try looking into a stable income, before they even arrive, but alas ~ I suppose the turnover is so high with people heading up there, and it not "working out" or "being the dream they wanted" , that they've had to adapt and adjust accordingly.

Good luck with the job. I will be in that same boat in a few weeks here shorty too maybe.... let me know how it goes. and if you land one, put in a good word for me

As a Recruiter I would assume that you would be working at a placement agency. As far as location in town I myself prefer south east Anchorage although west Anchorage is fairly good too, I would stay away North end of town, Mountain View, Fairview and Spenard can be questionable.

As far as comfortable salary, my husband and I live on $125,000 a year and we still need more.
