I live in Colorado and am planning to move to Anchorage. I've read about shipping companies but was wondering what others badge paid to have their furniture shipped to Anchorage. I was thinking of driving it myself to Seattle then shipping from there. I've also thought about renting a truck and driving myself. Any offers and suggestions would be great.

Thanks!

Most here will recommend that you not bring your furniture, pare down and drive up. I would agree with those opinions.

Lighten and roll.

Smaller packages from UPS takes about six weeks. Florida to Skagway, Alaska. 40 pounds. I think it's best to buy new furniture. Don't have to worry on the shipping...

Anchorage wouldn't be that bad though. I just shipped ground to Kotz and my box made it there in 7 days through Anchorage

It cost me $2,200.00 to ship my belongings to Alaska from Sacramento.

No furniture, just clothing books and "stuff".

I shipped many flat rate boxes last summer from MA to the Kenai and they all made it within a weeks time. Even the heavy boxes of tools!

I will be watching this thread with interest, since we are in the process of deciding what to do, if my husbands gets a job. So far we think we will sell all of the furniture that we don't care about, store our "good stuff" at our cabin and probably ship things like kids toys and books. We do have to bring my oldest daughter's bed and equipment. She is disabled, so we really need to keep that stuff. I am not sure how to ship that though, maybe a container, along with the other stuff?

Get rid of your Colorado furniture, put it in storage, or give it to friends and family. You can get decent furniture in AK cheaper than it would cost to send it up. Smaller things, you can mail.

Look in the Alaska Questions sticky, there are shipping companies in there. Sell the furniture like everyone said and drive up.

As Warptman pointed out check the sticky. There are also several medical supply companies in Anchorage.
