There aren't enough handouts available so now we are supposed to be handing out jobs? I would vote for a job lottery for roadkill positions but that is about it (that probably offended somebody - sorry.....)

When economics are on the swing down side. Lots of Alaskans will be out of work. The State Lottery job bank would kind of bring new hope for issuing out jobs. Boom and Bust. I rather see Boom. With offering 7,000 jobs at a state lottery job bank.

Bob...if there are no jobs to be filled how do you expect a lottery to help...??? the state or business cannot just create job openings with no need for an employee!

Let the state hire more work force than the native corporations out in the oil fields. Have state hire more educational teachers and expand Alaska State Troopers. Have state expand hiring forest rangers and city government police force. Makes some sense. hire additional 7,000 people in state wide area of Alaska would keep it's employee revenue in cities and towns throughout Alaska. Generating more cash flow many times.

Well,......OK, a friend of mine is coming ya'll's way within the month I suspect and...Betsy has decided that it is time for us to get back up there, It'll be a while, not like leaving next week or anything, getting bases covered first. Last time we did a Kenai Fjords tour and Betsy wants to do it again, it was a truly amazing trip. She wants to go back to Seward, then drive over to Homer for a fishin' trip. We intend to skip Girdwood, last time we stayed at the Glass House (stained glass, some nice work) but the folks there were not friendly. We also want to get to Fairbanks and since last time we were there before Denali Park was entirely open, we want to see more of that park as well as see a few of the museums in Anchorage. Last time, we stayed a day and a half ahead of the Salmon, we hope to amend that oversight.

I'm not really seeing where the state collecting taxes from people in state to pay state workers increases the cash flow into the state's economy. Spreads it around some, sure. But for most of the kinds of jobs you're talking about AK already needs to recruit heavily from out-of-state anyway, so I'm not sure that increased government hiring would do much for people who are already Alaska residents.

Projects that bring in outside money, on the other hand...

In My mind if Alaska holds it's Job Lottery Bank. It will give Job seekers another opportunity to get lucky finding a job to keep on working in state of Alaska. When several thousand People are out of job they can rely on the state government of Alaska to help bail them out with job market. I can vission laid off workers down town Anchorage hoping they win the Job Lottery. Basically the state government of Alaska would generate a new system of jobs. The job seakers would fill out on line ticket with normal job application and each year like in April the government pulls out the lucky winners. This would be good news media event and all the major Television & Radio stations can cover promote the Job Lottery Bank of Alaska.

I like this. I can't rep you again, but this just makes sense. Find a good worker, hire that worker. Why complicate it and force hiring managers to take people who may or may not be good for the job?
