Default Driving So Cal to Anchorage--any tunnels

We are planning on driving from So Cal to Anchorage in 2013. Ordered a milepost so should have that soon for a resource. Does anyone know if there is a tunnel free way to get to Alaska from the lower 48. I think I can manage to get out of CA and up to WA w/o tunnels but I don't know if there are any from the Canadian border to Anchorage. I realize there are a few options but just wondered if there was a tunnel free one. (My wife hates tunnels and if there are more than a couple short ones she won't agree to going on this trip.)

Thanks!

Drive up on Highway 97 through Washington, this will let you bypass the tunnels on Highway 1 in British Columbia. There are a bunch of tunnels along the Frazer River, but they aren't that long. Highway 97 will take you through Central Oregon and Central Washington and it is a great drive. Hang a right at Weed, CA and just follow the highway up to the Canadian Border where it crosses at Oroville, Wa and into Osoyoos, BC. Take Highway 97 up to Peachland and hang a left on 97C, a very nice four lane freeway over to Merritt, BC.

You have a couple choices to make leaving Merritt, you can either take Highway 8 over to Spences Bridge or stay on Highway 97C up to Kamloops and hang a left on Highway 1 to Cache Creek. Both roads are scenic but it's a toss up on which way is faster. I do like 97C from Merritt to Kamloops, it's all four lane.

Would I do better to go more east when I cross into Canada?
Or, do you know of any route that would avoid those tunnels, even if it is out of the way?

Thanks

I cannot remember, but there are few roads to choose from the farther north you go.
how about you consider the Ferry from Washington to Alaska?

This route has no tunnels in it. All of the tunnels are on Highway 1 from Hope to Spence's Bridge.

I am not sure which route is this route. It's not highway 1 but which route is it? I thought there were tunnels along Fraser River so that one's not good.
