It probably seems like I'm a total grouch, but these people always act like I should be THRILLED that they moved to my town, and just fascinated by the fact that they up and moved to Alaska. Most of the time they are nice people but dang, Anchorage has changed so much in the last 10 years and I think it's because we have way too many people here. So no, I'm not thrilled to see you move here. I get annoyed when you call yourselves "Alaskans" having been here one year. I am tired of meeting people who didn't grow up here, it's changing the character of the region.

Actually, it already has changed the character of the region. I bet it can't be saved at this point.

Can we hang out a "no vacancy" sign already?
As long as Alaska remains a part of the USA, people like those you meet have every right to be in Alaska. The USA is a free country. Hanging up a "no vacancy" sign will just cause a lawsuit.

THE BORDER IS CLOSED!!!!!
Won't do any good talking to Knowles. He was not born in Alaska so he had to leave.

You're free enough to live in any state you want, Alaska included. As long as that stands, then there is nothing that can be done to stop people from moving to Alaska. That was my point.

So just curious but how long do I have to live in Alaska before I can call myself Alaskan?

I have an Alaskan drivers license, does that count? Maybe take a few years off the mandatory waiting period?

Is there a rulebook somewhere?

If I'm not mistaken, 90 days is required for resident status.

That would be "legal" residency. I do believe the OP is reffering to what they believe are "Alaskan" standards. Funny thing is I was at a local Board meeting here in NCa, last night, and they were basically saying the same thing. Well actually only a few of the "born here" variety were saying it but they were wanting to know why the board members were on the board when they were not "from here". We, Americans, are a mobile society thus we move. Get over it those of you who are of the "I was born here so I am superior" variety.
