Default Ground or sea for moving your stuff to AK

Moving up to Palmer this August/September for work. Any recommendations on whether to ship via barge (cheaper) or by overland truck?

I've heard the containers can get a little moldy in their week or two at sea and I'd rather not have all our stuff get funky en route.

Thanks for your help.

We didn't have any problem with "funk" when we shipped.

If you are shipping any tools, give them a good coating of rust preventative like LPS3 or Boeshield before shipping them up on a barge. I had a lot of stuff show up with a good dose of surface corrosion. The stuff wrapped and packed in boxes did OK, but some of my machines and loose tools in tool boxes had spots where I had missed with the spray.

I shipped mine up from Colorado. Everything was packed very well. I also had my pickup shipped up here. I did have to have a good wash job on it when I received it however.

i trucked mine via a freight company. took appx three weeks (which gave me time to find a place first) only complaint is you're moving in 20 +/- degree weather and i forgot liquid items will freeze. was a good price though and because of the ice, no sand/dirty boxes.
